 Welcome Parents....

I would like to thank you for your support, for your desire to help your student become a life-long reader, as well as checking out the Green Mt. Library page.  This is your area for you to check into what is inside the books your student is checking out, you are the best resource as to what you would like your student read so here are some thoughts while discussing their reading adventure.....

  1. Check the book reviews online... you will find enough information to know if you support your student's decision to read that book.
  2. If you aren't reading the book with your student (30 minutes before bed is the perfect opportunity), ask your student to retell what they just read.  Not every detail needs to be discussed, let them be enthusiastic about their retelling as if they were talking to a friend about a movie they had just seen.  Keeping it simple will encourage further discussions.
  3. Remember the character's name and ask them what is happening, frame your questions as if you were the one reading the book... what would you want to happen next.... how did the character react during the challenges.... what would you guess might happen next.... what are you disappointed about because you thought something else might have happened....
  4. Consider putting a note in the book bag about what you thought would happen next... this is a great way if you are reading the book with them... when they aren't reading the book.... or reading a seperate copy of the same title.
  5. A fun idea is to write a stickee-note and stick it to their bathroom mirror for a morning inquiry...
  6. Remember to always have fun with what they are reading....

Enjoy your discoveries with your student's book choices,
