Beyond your book shelves with more Internet connections,

As promised, this week’s Internet connections will provide new learning opportunities for your student to brush up on their skills before the school bell begins ringing.

So grab your cup of tea or coffee, click open your “learning folder” on your desktop, and begin exploring and saving these powerful learning links.  If you are a new follower, welcome, consider yourself invited to explore the previous Internet connections for parents and the Back to School article.

Nature connections will inspire your student while enhancing their inquiry skills.  The following connections bring hours of science investigations into home:

National Wildlife Federation offers a promising connection between your backyard and the fun of a scavenger hunt for all ages.  Once you have “unearthed” an investigation can begin, rush in and click to learn.  Consider a small container with breathing vents, some colored pencils, a spiral notebook, and hours of scientific fun as summer ends and autumn begins.

The Junior Master Gardener: Kid Zone provides gardening tips, cooking suggestions, mystery images, bugs, and so much more.

Geology for Kids not just a site with facts!  The geology and geography gaming will create instant recall for facts that will help your student during any group discussion or assessment within their classroom.

The Dynamic Earth is a multimedia, self-learning, site for intermediate students.  This site is an interactive whiteboard presentation about earth and the solar system.

NASA for Students is perfect for any student age.  User-friendly linking will provide hours of exploration into the August skies and beyond.  The Kid’s Club link provides interactive gaming with a sensory feel like the old Star Wars arcade games.  Learning that is fun, educational, and engaging their scientific inquiry skills this site is a keeper.

Bill Nye the Science Guy has linked up a few of his safe at home experiments.  Parents these experiments are interactive for you with your student, so get out your goggles and put on your lab coat for an hour a week become the lab tech within your home.

The Young Scientist Club invites you thru the red door and into everything science.  There are downloads “kits” including coloring pages.  The Magic School Bus links for activities after sharing one of the books will extend their learning and inquiry beyond a scientific story time.

Look for part three, next week, when a math connection in the real world begins.

Enjoy your journey of discovery,

MrsK

Summer is a vaulting thing
It summer-saults its way past spring
Turns cartwheels, backflips
Has a ball
Until it tumbles into fall
